Motivational Interviewing: Supporting Clients in Building Resiliency

  • London Family Court Clinic 254 Pall Mall Street London, ON, N6A 5P6 Canada (map)

Motivational interviewing is a well-established, evidenced-based approach to treat individuals who have been abusing substances and performing other self-harming behaviours. Client engagement is a therapeutic challenge when working with vulnerable individuals. Motivational interviewing approaches provide a collaborative, person-centred approach to supporting and strengthening both engagement and motivation for change.

Heather Fredin, RP, will use the foundational concepts of motivational interviewing approaches to explain what creates change, and offer opportunities to learn how to integrate motivation interviewing approaches into daily interaction with clients. Motivational interviewing approaches go beyond asking “what do I do?” and asks, “how do I do it?”
